Through a series of workshops we ran through our Enterprise PowerBI Governance framework with council, helping them define policies and approaches enabling Efficient Decision Making.
Our customer is a forward looking Council in Victoria who were looking to make more use of data as part of their decision making processes. Their initial thought process was to review some best practices around the use and deployment of the PowerBI tool which they had started using to deliver on this vision. However following discussions with us in which we talked about our experiences with other councils, they realised their needs for data and governance were broader, and so we engaged with them to conduct a Council PowerBI governance process, in line with our Enterprise Enterprise PowerBI framework.
The council had only just begun its PowerBI journey, having built a few reports using internal skills. As a result it was in an ideal position to pause and reflect before making deeper commitments to using the tool and data in general.
Our initial conversations exposed that while council had developed proficiency in using the tools, broader considerations around the use of data were unexplored topics. Awareness around security risks, how to manage the platform and what steps were needed to drive successful adoption had not yet been considered.
Through a series of workshops we ran through our Enterprise PowerBI Governance framework with council, helping them define policies and approaches for:
This helped them define a roadmap for implementation of the technical components, but also the governance, management and adoption processes that would ensure the initiative could be a well managed success.
By establishing a Council PowerBI Governance framework they could follow, which properly took into account council’s priorities, resources and objectives in serving the community, they had a clear plan to drive Efficient Decision Making.
This roadmap helped them structure what steps needed to be taken to ensure that the platform could be deployed with maximum impact and minimum risk. Ultimately it will allow Council’s many sources of data to be utilised to improve the way services are delivered to customers.
Through the application of our Enterprise PowerBI strategy methodology and tools, we will design an approach for your organisation that will deliver value in alignment with your corporate strategy.
This process will also analyse your technology options and provide initial recommendations on appropriate capabilities and architectures.
